7:00am – IndoRow at Revolution
Decided it was a good week to hit up Indorow, to build my cardio back up. I am still getting used to the new instructors there—my favorite instructor, Bryan Kitch, left a few months ago and I’ve been a baby about trying the new instructors ever since. But, this is the second time I’ve been to Chris P.‘s class now and I think I’m getting a little more used to his teaching style.
Wave #1 - 30 seconds easy, 30 seconds full, four times. The stroke rate changed on each 30 seconds at full pressure. First interval was 29spm, then 27spm, 25spm, and 23spm. I like these kinds of drills. They really help reinforce the difference between pressure and stroke rate.
Wave #2 – This was an endurance wave. 2 minutes medium, 1 minute easy, 3 minutes medium, 30 seconds easy, 3 minutes medium. These are mentally and physically tough. Part of me thinks, why is this so hard, it’s not full pressure? But it’s still plenty of work to maintain a solid medium pressure over distance.
Races – we did three individual races. First we set our rowers for a distance, either 200, 250, or 300m. I chose 300m. We had to row that as fast as possible. Then we rested briefly and bumped our distance up 50m and tried to row that distance as close to our original 300m time as possible. Then we rested and added one more 50m bump. So I did:
300m – 1:00
350m – 1:15
400m – 1:25
I was happy with this since I didn’t fall off another 15 seconds when I did the 400m.
Overall good class and lots of good interval work! It was also nice to see some of my Indorow friends over there that I haven’t seen in quite a while!

Hey! Thanks! I miss having you in class! Hope that all is well and thanks for sending me the workout tips! Sorry I have been so slow to communicate, but I am balancing coaching, teaching, painting, and training right now — and the holidays have been crazy!
Hope that all is well down there and I’ll be checking up on you! Let me know if you are ever going to be in the city.
Cheers,
Bryan
