Rest Day
I realized that I have been approaching preparation for my surgery a bit like I approach preparing to take a trip. I run myself ragged for days leading up to the trip, all the time telling myself it’s okay because “I’ll sleep on the plane.” And while technically I will be sleeping during my surgery…it’s really not the same at all. And, in fact, one might want to be rested prior to the so-called sleeping.
So, I am taking a rest day today so I can be fresh for tomorrow. Not to mention, I am usually god-awful sleepy the day after a migraine anyway. And being that I am 2 Diet Rockstars deep in the day already, this phenomena seems to be holding true.

Rest Day – Massage
I really wanted to work out today. I’m tired of sitting around. But, when I woke up this morning, I was really congested and I decided even if I did a super light weight, I’d still be tiring out my system when I shouldn’t be. Bummer.
But, I did go over to Willow Spa (just 2 doors down from CrossFit LA on Santa Monica) and treat myself to an awesome Sports Massage. They are a little pricey there, but they are totally worth it if you want to treat yourself to really good massage. My massage therapist was great and knew her stuff. Plus, the ambiance there is so mellow and relaxing and they definitely take care of you and make you feel comfortable. I highly recommend checking them out.

Rest Days
I’m taking more rest days than normal this week. My body is just feeling it last week and this week, so I’m listening to it. My groin muscle is actually feeling a lot better and whatever is wrong with my foot comes and goes, but I figure just let it not be irritated for a couple days. I’ve had a series of migraines lately, too, which I have a strong feeling is related to all the heavy overhead stuff we’ve been doing. Once my traps get fired up, they don’t chill back out again! So, two days in a row off, then I’ll work out tomorrow and then probably take Saturday off, too.

Rest Day
Today was a rest day and THEN some. I got to work early, prepared to get lots done so I could clear my schedule to take Monday and Tuesday off to spend with my parents, who are in town for my birthday. Well, when I got to work and unloaded my bag and started scurrying around my office…I looked up and noticed a card on my computer screen.
Come to find out, it was a note from Andy, my employer, telling me to LEAVE and take the day off. Or, he wrote, better yet, I should drive myself down to the Burke Williams spa, as he had made back to back appointments for me at 10am and 11am!
At first I was a little stressed as I had so much to do, and then I realized what a great birthday present it was to just LET GO and leave. So went to Burke Williams and lounged around in the hot tub and sauna, before having a Swedish massage at 10am and a crazy awesome water treatment called the “Hunter’s Retreat” at 11am. Then I met my parents for lunch, took a nap, and then went out to a birthday dinner with my parents and my boyfriend (who were meeting for the first time). It was a most excellent day!

Rest Day
I didn’t do Master Class today since I knew I would be teaching all three regular classes in a row. I wanted to be rarin’ to go for the feisty Saturday gang! We had a bunch of visitors in the 9:30am and 10:30am classes from Leslie’s housing community. It was great to meet them all and show them a little bit about CrossFit. Thanks for bringing them, Leslie!
3:00pm – Massage
I haven’t had a massage in a LONG time. I finally got one today. I decided to try out the Massage Company at Wilshire and Barrington, since it is close by and inexpensive. It wasn’t the best one I’ve ever had, but it did help relieve some muscle tension. Yoga makes weird parts of my obliques and upper back sore, as well as make my hips achy. But I take that all as a good thing since it means I’m, hopefully, gaining flexibility in my hips and working core muscles.
Oh yeah, and when we started the massage the therapist said to me, “So, what sports do you play? ‘Cause your upper trapezius are…uh…really well developed.”

Rest Day
Thursdays are my normal rest day each week. Yay for rest days!
…oh, and I did my 25 wall ball at the end of the day — by myself in the gym at 9pm! It was just way too hot earlier in the day!

Rest Day/Skill Work
So, originally today I was going to go to the 7am class, but then I just felt all beat up from Hooverball and decided I needed some more rest/recover. But, I also made a commitment at the end of last week to start practicing Wall Ball daily starting today up until a couple days before Fight Gone Bad on September 26th. I also wanted to do a few thrusters with 45# to get myself mentally in a good place for the Jackie Challenge Finals on Saturday.
25 Wall Ball (14#)
I did sets of 5 and didn’t count any that were even suggestive of being “iffy” so I probably did about 10 extra overall.
2 sets
15 unbroken thrusters (45#)
And that was it!

Rest Day
I normally do Master Class on Saturdays, but I rested today due to knowing I won’t be resting on my normal day – Sunday. Tomorrow I am going down to San Diego for an all day seminar on coaching rowing!
Josh Crosby (creator/founder of IndoRow) will be leading the seminar and some of the other folks that will be there are former Olympic team members. The seminar is being hosted at a new gym in the Gaslamp District of San Diego, Aire, which is a gym “co-op” and the actual rowing school there is called The Engine Room.
It will be a great group to learn from and I am looking forward to it. I will bring what I learn “home” to share!
